Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders Program

The Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders Program is a leadership development program for ÌÇÐÄVlog – Armstrong Campus students. The program is highly interactive and gives participants an opportunity to be an on-campus leader while also engaging with the local Savannah community. Leadership speakers, skill building workshops, and leadership assessments provide hands-on training for the participants to develop as an individual and a leader.

There is no cost to students who are chosen to participate in the program.

Note: This program is available to Georgia Southern students on the Armstrong Campus only.

Benefits to Being an Emerging Leader

  • Connections: Students have multiple opportunities to meet and create relationships with current student leaders and community leaders.
  • Mentorship: Students receive 1:1 mentorship and support for the achievement of their personal goals for campus and community leadership.
  • Immersion: Students have opportunities to participate in various service projects on campus and in the community.
  • Experience: Students have opportunities to lead other students.
  • Exploration: Students explore various leadership styles and student leadership positions currently available on campus.

Program Requirements

Emerging Leaders Fall 2023 – Spring 2024 Schedule

  • August 2023: Kickoff – 6:00 PM; Location: Armstrong Student Union Ballroom
  • September : Module 1 Team Meeting (Team Building & What is Emerging Leaders?)
  • October : Module 2 Team Meeting (Inspire a Shared Vision) 
  • November: Module 3 Team Meeting (Enable Others to Act)
  • January : Module 4 Team Meeting (Challenge the Process)
  • February: Module 5 Team Meeting (Encourage the Heart)
  • March: Module 6 Team Meeting (Model The Way)
  • April: Module 7 Team Meeting (Encourage the Heart Presentation)
  • April : Module 8 Team Meeting (Key Leadership Events)  

**Mandatory Attendance: Two unexcused absences will result in dismissal from Emerging Leaders.

FAQs

Nick Mamalakis was a Savannah, GA native and active leader in his local community. Mr. Mamalakis was active in many civic organizations including the Johnny Mercer Foundation, Lions Club of Savannah, Rotary Club, Victor B. Jenkins Memorial Boy’s Club and was a founding trustee of the Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Mamalakis was an excellent example of a servant leader, and is the namesake for the emerging leaders program on the Armstrong Campus of ÌÇÐÄVlog.

Students that are accepted into the Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders program will be required to participate in monthly leadership trainings.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to attend leadership & service events throughout the year.

We will be going through the Student Leadership Challenge over the course of the year. Topics will include: Personal values, Leadership ethics, Leadership styles, Collaborative leadership, how to lead positive change, and much more!

There is no cost associated with participating in the Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders Program.

Students who complete the Nick Mamalakis Emerging Leaders Program are eligible to apply for a leadership scholarship at the completion of the program.  The scholarship process will be available to all students who graduate from the program.
